Mary Reilly
Mary has been devoted to yoga and the Iyengar tradition for over four decades. She studied regularly at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Institute in Pune, India, from 1995-2018 and now continues her studies there remotely. Teaching since 1982, Mary was certified personally by B.K.S. Iyengar at the Intermediate Senior II level (now called Level 3). She directs North Woods Yoga, the B.K.S. Iyengar Center of Northern Michigan in Petoskey. Her teaching is known for its clarity and positive encouragement in helping students find their inner strengths.
Christopher Briney
Christopher Briney is one of Metro Detroit's most highly trained and well-versed teachers of yoga. He has maintained a consistent personal yoga practice for over 28 years, and has been a student of Iyengar Yoga since 2002. Christopher holds a Level 3 Certification as an Iyengar Yoga teacher. In 2014, Christopher made his first trip to Pune, India to study with B.K.S. Iyengar and his family at the Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute, and his studies continue to this day via weekly classes with Prashant Iyengar. His teaching offers a rich blend of solid methodology gained from extensive training, along with a deeply intuitive (and good-humored) approach to transmitting the subject gained from his own seeking and striving to grow in yoga. Christopher is also a lifelong musician, singer and songwriter, which lends an artistic element to his yoga teaching and practice, as well as, he hopes, an yogic element to his music. Christopher will perform music and lead us in an exploration of kirtan and "nada yoga" (the yoga of sound) on Saturday evening.
